20 Biggest Video Game BOMBS That Deserved Better
1. Marvel's Midnight Suns
Marvel’s Midnight Suns is an XCOM-like, turn-based, deck-building, superhero-themed strategy game with roguelike elements and a little bit of dating sim thrown into the mix.
If this description sounds really confusing and all over the place, then you can already tell what went wrong with the title’s release.
Although the genre mix is a bit much at first glance, Marvel’s Midnight Suns is a surprisingly well-polished game, with a lot of thought put into both its combat and dating sim features.
The XCOM-style missions blend seamlessly with its in-depth deck-building system, and combined with the downtime conversations and events you can experience with your Marvel team of heroes, it quickly turns into an addicting gameplay loop that keeps you coming back for more.
Unfortunately, the number of different genres crammed into the game turned into a PR nightmare. It was hard to advertise each of the game’s aspects at once, and it eventually led to a lot of players being confused and turned off from the game, especially the Marvel crowd the game was aimed at, who sought a more straightforward, action-packed experience.
Still, the game did manage to amass a cult following of players who gave it a shot, who to this day lament its unfortunate end.
