20 Biggest Video Game BOMBS That Deserved Better
12. Kingdoms of Amalur: Re-Reckoning
Kingdoms of Amalur: Re-Reckoning is an open-world RPG that most likely no one in 2025 has heard about, even though it is arguably up there with other major titles in the genre.
Originally released in 2012, Kingdom of Amalur combined hack-and-slash gameplay with roleplaying elements. At the time, this mix between Diablo and your typical RPGs wasn’t really thoroughly explored, especially to the extent the game had done it, what with its hundreds upon hundreds of quests and genuinely in-depth world-building.
The game managed to sell moderately well, but the company behind it still failed due to amassing a huge debt, causing Kingdoms of Amalur to fade into obscurity for the next eight years.
The project was eventually given a second chance to make a name for itself in 2020, when THQ Nordic released a remaster called Kingdoms of Amalur: Re-Reckoning.
The thing is, if you know anything about THQ Nordic’s terrible business decisions at the time and the list of all the huge games that came out in 2020 (The Last of Us Part II and Hades, just to name two), you can tell this didn’t end well.
Kingdom of Amalur was robbed of its redemption arc, even though it definitely deserves success.
