20 Biggest WTF Gaming Moments Of The Decade (So Far)

20. You're Playing Assassin's Creed Inside Assassin's Creed (AC: Black Flag)

For a while there, you just had to hand it to Ubisoft; they figured out a way to continue the franchise after the demise of Desmond in AC III, and looked to actually have an out for the overarching world-ending plot line of "ancient alien race is coming to wipe us out" (or whatever it is). In what's both a totally genius move and one that wrote them completely into a corner, Black Flag doesn't pick up with you playing as one of Desmond's crew or ancestors, instead you're working for Abstergo, who in the game's world now partner with Ubisoft, and are releasing Assassin's Creed games. Yup, turns out there was enough data to pull from past Animus sessions to then be repurposed into entertainment for the world, creating a meta-version of everything you're doing in real life. The problem was now they had to go back again and try to establish something sinister going on behind the scenes, but for the most part you were literally living the life of an Ubisoft game tester, in an Ubisoft game, playing games while you game. Xzibit would be proud.
