The crossbow was a strange addition to Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood. It was essentially a replacement for the throwing knives, but it required absolutely no patience, planning or dexterity to use. You simply pointed it at enemies, and those enemies went away. You didn't need to aim the thing, and ammunition wasn't exactly scarce, so it immediately become the best weapon in the game, and also the laziest.

In many ways, the crossbow completely broke Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood. I mean, no longer did you have to carefully navigate a tense situation, pick your moments and enact a carefully conceived plan. You just had to walk up to a guard, and shoot him, and then his mate. Eventually, the entire area was clear, leaving your target utterly exposed. Easy pickings.

The crossbow wasn't even difficult to unlock. You can get it fairly early on in the game, though if you're looking for a more challenging experience, I suggest you give it a miss entirely.
