20 Disappointing Video Games That Didn't Fulfil Their Potential

The game that broke the yearly WWE release schedule that had started all the way back in 2000 with WWF SmackDown! And that has to account for something. With the yearly releases for this series, the developer, Visual Concepts, didn’t have any time to try and fix any of the numerous issues that plagued 2K20.

Visual Concepts was generally a support studio with WWE games in the past, assisting the main developer, Yuke’s. And the results were plain to see. Many critics stated that the entry was a low point in the series, with countless game-breaking bugs that felt like the game was still a work in progress. But if you ever wanted to see John Cena’s neck stretch as long as the wrestling ring, steel chairs magically disappear and reappear, and Roman Reigns seemingly able to walk through the ring (kinda like how the Flash vibrates through walls), boy howdy, do I have the game for you.

If the higher-ups weren’t so strict about keeping the yearly structure in place, Visual Concepts could’ve had time to continue to work on 2K20 and improve it for the gamers who picked up the game. Instead, Visual Concepts started putting all their efforts into the next entry, WWE 2K22, which, fortunately, due to the extended development time, did not suffer the same fate and was received far better.

Hey, I’m Matt. I work full-time at WhatCulture's neighbours, MyVoucherCodes. I first joined MyVoucherCodes as a Deals Expert, scouring the internet, leaving no stone unturned in finding the best discount codes, sales and offers for our customers. Moving into my first home during the worst possible time (during lockdown), I understand the necessity of saving money when the purse strings are tight. Outside of saving money, I’m into video games, movies, books and music. I host and edit a video game podcast called The Retry Hard Podcast, where my friend and I go through news, reviews and video games in general. I love movies and watching how they’re made, and I’ve worked as a set decorator for a few months on His Dark Materials season 3, which gave me a massive insight into how it all comes together. I also put out music as a solo artist named Matt Kiano, where I won the award for Best Male Artist of 2025 for Radio Wigwam and have been nomiated for Best Live Act at the 2026 Radio Wigwam Awards.
