20 Disappointing Video Games That Didn't Fulfil Their Potential

4. Mindseye

MindsEye
IO Interactive

A more recent entry for you now, with Mindseye only coming out in 2025, so who knows? The developers may come back and fix many of the issues found in Mindseye, but the likelihood of this happening is slim.

The developer, Build A Rocket Boy, has said they’re committed to fixing this game, but with the layoffs hitting them pretty hard and reports of Mindseye being a whopping £200m flop, it’s no wonder that things have been quiet since September 2025.

And it’s a shame. With GTA VI constantly being delayed and us not having an entry in the series since 2013, which is more than 10 years ago now, we desperately need a competitor. Saints Row has been put to rest, Sleeping Dogs was seemingly a one-and-done situation and Watch Dogs: Legion happened, so we don’t have anything to fill that gap left by GTA. GTA needs some competition, and Mindseye could’ve been the ticket. But unfortunately, it missed its target completely.

Mindseye is a complicated game. One aspect of it makes it seem like it’s a GTA clone, and then the other side of the coin is the player-generated content. And honestly, it’s not a terrible idea. It could’ve stood a fighting chance if only the devs were honest about what the game was before release and delayed it by a few months so Build A Rocket Boy could polish it up as best they could.

Hey, I’m Matt. I work full-time at WhatCulture's neighbours, MyVoucherCodes. I first joined MyVoucherCodes as a Deals Expert, scouring the internet, leaving no stone unturned in finding the best discount codes, sales and offers for our customers. Moving into my first home during the worst possible time (during lockdown), I understand the necessity of saving money when the purse strings are tight. Outside of saving money, I’m into video games, movies, books and music. I host and edit a video game podcast called The Retry Hard Podcast, where my friend and I go through news, reviews and video games in general. I love movies and watching how they’re made, and I’ve worked as a set decorator for a few months on His Dark Materials season 3, which gave me a massive insight into how it all comes together. I also put out music as a solo artist named Matt Kiano, where I won the award for Best Male Artist of 2025 for Radio Wigwam and have been nomiated for Best Live Act at the 2026 Radio Wigwam Awards.
