10. Babylon's Fall
When Babylon's Fall was unveiled, it looked like it had all the ingredients to be a solid action game from the studio behind NieR: Automata and Bayonetta, PlatinumGames. The game's trailers showcased multiple warriors using a variety of cool-looking weapons and spells while battling their way up the legendary Tower of Babylon. It was an interesting proposition to say the least, and it definitely caught the eye.
Each trailer built on the previous one, with the December 2019 gameplay one in particular making Babylon's Fall look like a captivating action title with all of PlatinumGames' usual combat flair. Set to a bombastic soundtrack, the trailer showed plenty of stylish combat abilities and chaotic, action-packed environments waiting to be tackled.
To say that the 2022 launch fell short of expectations would be something of an understatement. What players actually got was a universally panned disappointment that featured dated visuals, repetitive combat, and a live service model that was tedious and obstructive. Things were so bad that incredibly, publisher Square Enix announced the game's servers would be shut down in February 2023, less than a year after release. It turns out Babylon's eventual fall came much quicker than anyone could anticipate.
