The reveal trailer for Fallout 76 was almost impossible not to love. Set to a cover of John Denver's 'Take Me Home, Country Roads', it slowly explored the interior of a completed Vault 76 before revealing the game's visually stunning post apocalyptic setting. With the series' popularity at an all-time high thanks to the massive success of Fallout 4, things were looking really positive for Bethesda's upcoming sequel that was scheduled for a November 2018 release.

Further trailers expanded on that initial promise, showcasing the game's setting and gameplay elements that seemed to build on their predecessors' in meaningful ways, with base building being a focus, as well as some crazy new gimmicks like the ability to launch nuclear missiles. Unfortunately, despite this promise, when the game finally arrived it was in a hell of a rough state.

To say it was initially plagued by bugs (even for Bethesda's standards, there were a LOT) would be an understatement. Enemies would constantly get stuck in scenery, audio would regularly break, and servers frequently disconnect. The huge map also felt barren due to a lack of human NPCs. Thankfully, Bethesda put in some serious work to remedy this, and today, the game has received numerous substantial updates that have addressed many of its core issues.
