20 Craziest Moments In Gaming In 2025

8. Bilewater - Hollow Knight: Silksong

Yuki's Revenge
Team Cherry

Hollow Knight: Silksong ramps up everything that made the original challenging, such as precise jumping, sparse checkpoints, and punishing enemies.

And if that wasn't enough, the skills required to successfully navigate around Bilewater is crazy. The swamp environment is filled with double-damage enemies with awkward trajectories, unpredictable spawn patterns, and draining maggot water. A single misstep or mistimed dash while pogo-jumping around is likely to result in the Hornet hero meeting their maker.

If the Hornet manages to reach the end, they're not out of the woods yet. In the final room, the Hornet must contend with Groal the Great. The froggy fiend relies on every unfair strategy imaginable, including poison attacks, detonating orbs, summons, and environmental traps.

But here's the kicker. Damage taken on the way up carries over, meaning the Hornet will be missing health by the time they thrown down with this amphibious adversary.

But here's the other kicker. If you die (and you will), you have to run through Bilewater all over again.

It's a blessing this entire section is optional, since it would stop progress dead for even the most hardcore players.
