15. Yuki's Revenge - Fortnite

Yuki's Revenge
Epic Games

Fortnite has become such a self-sustaining juggernaut, it feels like every popular brand is joining the battle royal universe, whether it's Scream, The Simpsons, or KPop Demon Hunters.

However, one IP that seemed unlikely to have any ties with Epic Games' powerhouse shooter is Kill Bill.

Which is why it was startling when Quentin Tarantino agreed to incorporate the revenge story into Fortnite Chapter 7 to coincide with the re-release of Kill Bill: The Whole Affair.

But rather than just chucking in a few skins and cosmetics, this mission serves as a canonical part of the Kill Bill storyline. Based on an unfilmed scene from Kill Bill called Yuki's Revenge, the plot follows Yuki Yubari, who's vowed to avenged her sister, Gogo, who was killed by The Bride (reprised by Uma Thurman).

Now, reworking an integral plot point from a 20+ year script into a video game isn't just odd but unprecedented. Also, of all the games this idea could've been implemented into, Tarantino chose Fortnite, a franchise that's renowned for its cartoony aesthetic and young demographic. Kill Bill, on the other hand, had half the fight scenes shot in black-and-white to get around graphic violence.

Although it's nice to see Kill Bill making a comeback, the way Tarantino went about it is surreal.
