20 Dead Gaming Franchises That NEED To Come Back

The love for these dead franchises is still there. So, where are the games?

There was a time where it looked like certain gaming franchises' best days were behind them. Against the odds, they got back on their feet and are currently stronger than ever.

Seeing a recovery like this is wonderful, not just for gamers, but the entire industry. If a resurrected game sells like hot cakes, it can compel studios to revive other forgotten brands.

Although many classics have had a renaissance in recent years, others are still in the gutter. Some promising properties fell out of favour with the public after releasing one too many duds. Certain IPs never had a bad instalment, but still faded away after the developers went bankrupt.

As unfortunate as that may, making a comeback isn't impossible. The recent success of Donkey Kong Bananza and Shinobi: Art of Vengeance demonstrates it's never too late for any video game series to have a return to form.

You mightn't have played or thought of these gaming sagas in forever, but it'd be amazing to see them reclaim what they lost.

Nintendo

After the recent reinvigoration of Donkey Kong, now is the perfect time for Nintendo to bring back another old-school powerhouse, Star Fox.

The galactic shooter was a pioneer in gaming, since the original was one of the first SNES games to utilise 3D polygonal graphics. The follow-up allowed the players' choices lead to alternate routes in missions, diversifying the gameplay and offering a lot of replay value. Unfortunately, it hasn't been the same since Star Fox Adventures received mixed reviews.

There've been a few sequels since and Nintendo tried to reignite interest with Star Fox Zero, but just felt like more of the same rather than another revolutionary title.

With current-gen consoles, a new entry could finally realise fully explorable 3D space battles, immersive planetary landings, and cinematic dogfights. Nintendo could expand the story of the Lylat System, exploring politics, rivalries, and the backgrounds of recognisable characters.

On top of that, online co-op and competitive modes could modernise the experience. Just imagine how epic it would be to soar through the cosmos in your Arwing and battle Andross' forces in the main campaign alongside your buddies.
