Xenoblade Chronicles has remained such a juggernaut in the sci-fi fantasy circuit, it's easy to forget it started off as a spin-off of Xenogears. It's also easy to forget Monolith Soft's magnum opus wasn't the first spin-off of this PSOne title.

Despite the fact this underrated RPG received high praise, budget restraints led the developers to fittingly shift gears for the follow-up, Xenosaga Episode I. It maintained role-playing elements, but had broader characters arcs, more focus on philosophy, and a dense narrative spread over three games.

Though Xenosaga was intended to be a six-part story, a lack of sales led it being cut down to a trilogy. Luckily, the franchise saw a new level of success when it was reinvented as Xenoblade Chronicles, which had more accessible combat, story, and characters. Xenosaga never came close to matching Xenoblade's profits, so it's understandable why Monolith moved forward with the latter.

But at the same time, it would be nice to revisit Xenosaga, or finish the three abandoned storylines. If Monolith re-released or remastered the original trilogy, it could generate enough buzz to have a new project green-lit.
