20 Dead Gaming Franchises That NEED To Come Back
9. Golden Sun
One RPG that deserves far more recognition is Golden Sun. Released on the Game Boy Advance, Camelot's fantasy tale follows a quartet of magic-users who embark on a quest to bring balance to the world.
Golden Sun provided everything one would expect from a role-player, especially the ingenious combat. As well as using regular attacks and magic, the heroes can call upon superpowered creatures called Djinn. By activating these in battle, the party can perform devastating attacks, heal, resurrect fallen members, boost stats, etc. If enough Djinn are used, the party can summon godlike beings to unleash a cataclysmic assault on enemies. Though this mechanic is complex, the level of strategy required makes every victorious battle deeply rewarding.
The third instalment, Golden Sun: Dark Dawn, concluded with a To Be Continued, so fans were eager to learn what happened next. 15 years later, we're still waiting.
It's a hard pill to swallow but this hiatus shouldn't be surprising. Despite the solid reviews, Golden Sun never sold spectacularly. With the franchise tied solely to Nintendo handhelds, the transition to newer consoles may have complicated development plans.
Though there's nothing in the pipeline, it would be a dream come true to see Golden Sun being renewed.
