20 Dead Gaming Franchises That NEED To Come Back
8. PaRappa The Rapper
With popularity for rhythm games at their crescendo, it’s a wonder what’s taking Parappa the Rapper so long to return to the scene, considering it helped popularise games where players can bust a groove.
With its vibrant paper-cutout style, offbeat humour, and hiphop tracks, NanaOn-Sha’s quirky title made an instant impression. It became iconic for being among the first titles to successfully merge music and storytelling in a way that felt accessible and charming to a wide audience.
Sadly, the follow-ups didn’t turn out the same way, causing interest in the property to dry up. Although the 2017 remaster could’ve revitalised Parappa the Rapper, the flawed input system tarnished its name further.
Despite these fumbles, the concept behind Parappa the Rapper is still sound. Even though rhythm games have come leaps and bounds over the years, this PSOne classic is sure to leave modern players humming to tunes and bopping to the beat for days.
Reviving Parappa would be a great way to celebrate the origins of the rhythm titles while introducing a new generation of players to one of the genre’s most defining characters.
