20 Dead Gaming Franchises That NEED To Come Back
5. Perfect Dark
Although Perfect Dark wasn't as influential as GoldenEye 007, Rare's spiritual successor improved in many departments, offering voice-acting, sharper textures, dual-function weapons, astounding enemy AI, and diverse multiplayer options.
The game itself provided far more elaborate missions, including teaming up with an alien, hijacking a UFO, and collapsing a galactic empire. It was a monumental risk to recreate the N64's most iconic shooter, but Perfect Dark was a titan amongst its peers.
Though its future seemed uncertain when Microsoft bought Rare, the developers emphasised the sci-fi shooter was coming back. Despite the fact Rare was true to their word, Perfect Dark Zero and the Perfect Dark remaster paled compared to the original.
Even though skepticism was justified when The Initiative announced they were helming a Perfect Dark reboot in 2020, the previews showed the team put a lot of thought and care into the project. For the first time in a while, the future of Perfect Dark seemed bright.
But when Microsoft closed down the studio in July 2025, the plug was pulled on the whole operation.
As such, people are going to have wait much longer to see another Perfect Dark come to fruition.
