20 Dead Gaming Franchises That NEED To Come Back
4. Sly Cooper
During the millennium, the gaming industry was overstuffed with mascot-driven platformers, making it difficult for any new game to stand out.
However, Sucker Punch's Sly Cooper series set itself apart from the rabble immediately. Rather than relying on typical running and jumping gameplay, players required stealth, since they had to sneak around rooftops and avoid guards to complete missions. With this different approach, the cel-shaded adventure was a big hit, inspiring numerous sequels.
When the fourth entry, Sanzaru Games' Thieves in Time, ended on a cliffhanger, players were keen to see what escapades our nimble racoon hero would take part in next.
Too bad that was the last we ever saw of Sly. A fifth entry was rumoured in 2021, but nothing came of it. Although Sucker Punch stated there are no plans for Sly Cooper in the foreseeable future, another instalment isn't out of the question.
As can be seen in the latest entries in Metal Gear Solid and Assassin's Creed, stealth mechanics have evolved in leaps-and-bounds since Sly Cooper's early days. For this reason, it'd be fascinating to see what a modern entry could pull off.
