20 Game Anniversaries Coming In 2026 That'll Age You Mercilessly
5. Tekken 2 Turns 30
Tekken vs Mortal Kombat; the age-old question, and one whose answer used to depend on what hardware you had at home – or what was stocked at the local arcade. Both franchises have weathered the test of time, and for Tekken it is thanks in large part to its break-out second game.
Tekken 2 rapidly overtook Tekken as the go-to fighting game of the early nineties, only surpassed by the iconic Tekken 3. You play as any of a large cast of characters all hailing from different locales and specialising in different forms of combat, including jaguar-masked wrestler King, supernatural ninja Yoshimitsu, military cyborg JACK-2 and, uhh, Alex the boxing dinosaur.
And in 2026 it turns an eye-watering, wrinkle-inducing thirty years old.
The primary reason the game doesn’t feel its age (or, at least, that it makes us feel older than it ought to) is because of its longevity. Tekken 2 was still being played widely – in arcades and on the PlayStation – well into the noughties, and its later ports to the PSP, PS3, PS4 and PS5 have kept the fire burning.
