Saints Row: The Third crash landed with a bang, bringing the Third Street Saints gang to Steelport and unleashing fan-favourites like Johnny Gat and new players like Josh Birk on the city, armed with katanas, alien weaponry and giant dildos.

Building on the madness of the first two games while going bigger, harder and more mental on every front, The Third didn’t change the mould, and can’t hold a candle to the graphics, physics or verisimilitude of apparent stablemates like GTA. Yet its loud, brash and almost wholly uncensored approach to story, character and situation have given it tremendous staying power.

Thus, somehow, it has been a decade and a half since we first saw Gangstas In Space and parachuted onto a penthouse to Kanye’s “Power”. Granted though, it may be a matter of perspective that this feels not so long ago, as for those of us who followed Saints Row from the start The Third still feels like one of the newer games in the original series.

It indubitably helps that the game has been kept alive in remastered editions for just about every console released in the last fifteen years, and the stalwart fanbase that likes a bit of silly, low-stakes nonsense from time to time shows no signs of budging.
