20 Games That Made The Movies BETTER

It’s been a long time since we’ve had a new Friday the 13th film, let alone a good one, but that doesn’t mean the hype for the cornerstone ‘80s slasher franchise has ever died down. And IllFonic capitalised on this in 2017, giving long-time fans of the series exactly what they didn’t realise they needed.

Friday the 13th: The Game offered players the opportunity to step right into the films. Set in a variety of locations around Camp Crystal Lake, and intersecting neatly with the plots and killing grounds of several of the films, we get to control either Jason himself or one of the camp counsellors or victims trying to survive his wrath.

Now, while online-only games can sometimes feel like the death of the art of gaming, Friday 13th managed to use this to its advantage, creating something thrilling, scary and evocative of the films without getting bogged down in a play-by-play of the films’ plots. It delivers what is best about the Friday the 13th franchise: the chase, the hunt, the kills, and it does so in abundance.

Unfortunately, on Hogmanay 2024, the Friday the 13th: The Game servers went offline, calling time on the game for good.
