20 Games That Made The Movies BETTER

1. Enter the Matrix (2003)

Enter the Matrix doesn't carry the name of its primary cinematic counterpart - The Matrix Reloaded - precisely because it was never meant to just be a straight adaptation of the film, but an expansion of it, companion piece, and piece of canon in its own right.

From the beginning, the Wachowskis did their utmost to make The Matrix a multimedia storytelling endeavour, incorporating the Animatrix anthology, several comic books and several games as essential parts of the series. Set during the events of Matrix Reloaded, and intersecting with the film at many different points, Enter The Matrix is not just a cash-in but an excellent game in its own right that nails the slow-motion fighting, weapons and aesthetics of the films.

It offers us a better look into what playable characters Ghost (Anthony Wong) and Niobe (Jada Pinkett Smith) are doing in Reloaded, and adds little Easter eggs and extra content for when we watch Reloaded so we can tie larger, partially seen events in the film to the game and vice versa. And, as if that alone wasn’t enough, the game features over an hour of supplementary footage written and directed by the Wachowskis themselves, and starring the cast of the film - making it not merely a passing fancy, but an essential part of the story.
