20 Games That Made The Movies BETTER
19. X-Men Origins: Wolverine, Uncaged Edition (2009)
X-Men Origins was originally conceived as a series of standalone prequels to Fox’s X-Men trilogy, each diving deep into the histories of some of the franchise’s main players. Unfortunately, the first of these titles, Gavin Hood’s Origins: Wolverine, was such a disaster the idea was dropped altogether.
But nobody knew this when making and promoting the film, meaning there were as many tie-ins for this as there were for pretty much any other title in the broader franchise - including a cross-platform action-adventure game adaptation. Now, the best X-Men games have always been the ones that draw directly from the comics, bypassing the films and Fox's need to make a quick buck on the back of a medium the company almost always saw as a marketing tool. But nobody told Origins: Wolverine developer Raven Software that.
Taking inspiration from God of War and Devil May Cry, Origins: Wolverine is a decent game in its own right, but the Uncaged Edition takes the gloves off and offers violence, blood and gore unseen in any other X-Men game. An all-round authentic Wolvie experience, this is a game that follows the film’s plot but allows us to look past the awkward cameos, cliches and iffy dialogue and tap into the elements that make the film good: the mutant powers and epic fights.
