20 Games That Made The Movies BETTER
15. The Sum of All Fears (2002)
Despite starring Morgan Freeman and Ben Affleck, nobody except your dad really remembers early-noughties spy thriller The Sum of All Fears. Adapted from the Tom Clancy novel of the same name, it has CIA analyst Jack Ryan (Affleck) racing against the clock to diffuse international political tensions and prevent a nuclear-charged WWIII.
The film isn’t anything special, but that didn’t stop Paramount throwing everything they had behind it, including a game. Released on Windows, PS2 and GameCube, and based on the Ghost Recon engine, the first-person shooter far surpasses the film from the off - primarily because it is all action, all the time.
Allowing you to take on missions that are both in the film and in the background of the film, the levels offer a satisfying and simplified approach to the film-to-game adaptation, shooting now and asking questions later. The PC version in particular (which is what the game was originally developed for) makes for exciting and engaging playing that provides enough additional context to the film to make you want to go back and give it another look.
