20 Games That Made The Movies BETTER
13. Star Wars: Battlefront II (2005)
Timed with the release of Star Wars: Episode III Revenge of the Sith, the original Battlefront II is far and away the best Star Wars game that attempts to accurately represent and adapt the films, especially where the prequels are concerned.
Battlefront II is a force unto itself (see what we did there), embracing the maligned prequel trilogy films wholeheartedly and showing players precisely what is good about them and their world in an action-centric game that throws us directly into the heart of the major and minor conflicts of the films. We get to experience the saga on the ground level, while really getting into the detail of the different classes and soldiers seen onscreen.
The game dispenses with the more laborious politics of the films and focuses right in on the action elements, but also provides new (yet wholly canon) context in terms of the story. In the Rise of the Empire campaign, we play as members of the 501st Legion (clone/stormtroopers), playing from Attack of the Clones’ Battle of Geonosis through to the Battle of Hoth from The Empire Strikes Back. So influential was this addition to, and expansion of, the films, that the 501st went on to feature as extensively in the animated Star Wars shows.
