20 Great Video Games That Everybody Turned Against
17. Apex Legends (2019)
Spun off from Respawn's Titanfall series, Apex Legends quickly became the go-to title for fans of the franchise who had spent years kicking the kerb waiting on a third Titanfall game (which has still yet to materialise).
Battle royale game Apex Legends offers us the chance to return to the Titanfall universe, albeit some distance away from the original action, with arena-based squad matches. Playing at the titular Legends, we get to wield various weapons, powers and abilities (including those of several Titanfall characters) and romp the day away looting and shooting around brightly coloured environments.
The game got off to a roaring start, and was even hailed as a successor, or at least competitor, to Fortnite. Unfortunately, it got stuck in the weeds very early on. Apex Legends quickly aggrieved and angered its initial player base on what was considered to be an unfair monetisation loot box model, and one which received major backlash from media and gamers, and even led to direct, expletive-laden arguments between players and devs during the Iron Crown event just half a year after its release.
