20 Greatest Commodore Amiga Games Of All Time

9. Cannon Fodder

WAR - has never been so much fun! So the tagline and theme song from this Sensible Software title claimed - and it was right. Cannon Fodder was a hybrid of several different types of game: a top-down, squad-based, action-strategy, shoot-em-up with some RTS and RPG elements. Amiga Action magazine claimed it to be the best game they had ever seen and could not fault any aspect of it; those who played Cannon Fodder could understand why - it was a truly brilliant and unique experience. The gameplay was terrifyingly addictive, despite later levels becoming almost comically difficult; there was a poignant, anti-war message within the game, even with its many comedic aspects; and it had a theme tune so memorable that, even 20 years later, those who first heard it back then will find themselves humming it aloud on occasion.
