1991 side-scrolling shoot-em-up Turrican II was the best of its genre to be released on the Amiga. The similarities to Metroid couldnt be ignored, especially with its large levels and non-linear gameplay. Not only were the graphics and gameplay outstanding, but it had a awesome, thumping soundtrack. Turrican II was yet another title that fell into the incredibly challenging bracket. With a 360 degree firing arc and upgradeable weapons, the game was considered to be an improvement on the previous king of the hardcore, side-scrolling genre: R-Type.
