This was the title that really launched Fable creator Peter Molyneuxs career as a game designer. Considered the first ever God game, Populous cast you as a deity who guides your followers and directs them in conquering an opposing force. Great fun was had from sadistically using your Godly powers to inflict natural disasters upon your enemies. Populous may not have aged as well as some of the other games here, but it will always be regarded as the starting point of a new genre, and Peter Molyneuxs first massive hit.
