Year: 1994 Platform: SNES You've almost definitely heard of EarthBound. You might even have played it via the Game Boy Advance port or on the Wii U Virtual Console. Chances are, you never played the original North American SNES release of EarthBound though, because it sold ridiculously badly. Over the years, EarthBound has become the quintessential cult JRPG. It's incredibly quirky, taking place in a 90s suburban USA in contrast to the usual fantasy settings at the time. For some reason, this quirkiness didn't set well with critics at the time, receiving a poor response on launch. Despite this, the offbeat humour, fourth-wall breaking antics and bizarre mix of tones has meant that EarthBound has since been remembered as a unique classic. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vGOEMCG2Ll4
