20 Hilarious Video Game Mechanics You Didn't Know Existed
8. Jack's Encouragment - Borderlands The Pre-Sequel
One of the key aspects of the Borderlands series is the skill trees that allow you to create unique builds for your character.
For most vault hunters across the franchise, each perk in their talent trees is guaranteed to make them stronger, but Borderlands The Pre-Sequel breaks this unwritten rule in a pretty hilarious way.
One of the DLC characters, Handsome Jack's body double, has access to the "Hero of This Story" skill tree that focuses on offensive abilities, but it also features an enigmatic perk called "Inspire" that causes Jack to "occasionally give words of motivation."
The perk doesn't really explain what it does, but given that all perks help you in some way, you might think Jack's motivational quotes could grant you some temporary buffs.
However, in reality, the only thing Inspire does is cause a bright rainbow-clad "Inspired!" to appear on your screen every time Jack bothers to give you his oh-so motivational words of wisdom (it also shows the words "Disillusioned" followed by Jack's passive-aggressive jabs every time you die).
The perk does nothing in terms of gameplay, but this is exactly what makes it so hilarious.
You can just imagine a corporate megalomaniac crook like Jack considering his own words to be a reward in and of themselves.
