Deltarune is the spiritual successor of Undertale not only in its aesthetic and general vibe but also in the fact that the game features plenty of references to it.

One of which is the secret mechanic related to the character naming screen.

Before you begin your adventure in Deltarune, the game wants you to put in your character’s name. You are free to name your character whatever you want, and obviously, some players might try to put in a name of a character from Undertale or Deltarune.

If you input specific names like this, the game will actually react to your choice. If you name the character after someone from Undertale, the message will say “HOW INTERESTING", and if you write down a character from Deltarune, it will instead say “YOU ARE ABOUT TO MEET SOMEONE VERY, VERY WONDERFUL.”

There is also an interaction with the name Gaster, referencing the mysterious secret character from Undertale that's the topic of many fan theories. If you try to put in his name, the game will automatically close as you try to input the letter "R".

This mechanic only appears at the start of the game and doesn’t impact the gameplay in any way. However, it’s the kind of detail you can have quite a lot of fun with.
