Metro 2033, just like its literary source material, is set in a bleak and hopeless postapocalyptic world where everything and everyone seems to be out there to get you.

The main character, Artyom, rarely experiences any moments of levity within the titular metro system, and yet the developers added a very whimsical and silly little detail into the game, anyway.

Most of the gun animations in Metro 2033 are your typical realistic kind. Each gun in the game has its own custom animation for reloading, aiming, and other things you’d think to do with a weapon, but there are also hidden idle animations that trigger when you leave Artyom with his gun out for a couple of minutes.

And contrary to everything the game’s setting tells you, these idle animations can get pretty whacky.

Whenever Artyom is bored of your absence, he begins to play with the weapon in his hand. The animation changes depending on the type of gun he is holding and can include stuff like Artyom playing an air guitar solo on his rifle or doing tricks with his pistol.

Some may say these animations are a bit too silly for a game like Metro, but that’s exactly what makes them so good at humanizing Artyom.

Plus, they’re just funny to look at.
