20 Most Hotly Anticipated Games Still To Come In 2014
11. Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel (Oct 14)
The confusingly-titled Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel is the third game in the series, though serves as a prequel to the excellent Borderlands 2. Gearbox Software readily admit that the game is not to be thought of as Borderlands 3, and journalists lucky enough to play the game at E3 confirm that the game feels more like an expanded version of the second game than a proper third game, but that for the most part it is indeed an enjoyable experience. So, what makes this more than a glorified DLC? Well, the story details the descent of Handsome Jack (the antagonist of the second game) into villainy, and the player characters begin the story as his lackeys. In addition to this, there's some nifty new weapons, such as a gun which can freeze enemies, and given that much of the game takes place on the moon, gravity's impact is lessened, while players can also use oxygen tanks to propel themselves around, Sandra Bullock style. It's probably best not to expect anything too different from The Pre-Sequel, but given how ridiculously entertaining the previous game was, that doesn't seem to be such a big deal. With a cut-price release being discussed, it's likely that the game won't last quite as long as the previous ones, so think of it as a stop-gap between the second and third core games. Predicted MetaCritic Score: 83
