20 Most Hotly Anticipated Games Still To Come In 2014
17. Destiny (Sept 9)
Easily one of the most anticipated games of the year is Destiny, the latest effort from former Halo developer Bungie. With a massive $500 million budget (making it easily the most expensive game ever made), they're clearly hedging their bets that Destiny might be the new mammoth franchise, combining all the best elements of the medium's most popular works: the MMO-based adventure of World of Warcraft and the visceral shoot-em-up thrills of Call of Duty. Players will find themselves thrown into an epic open-world, whereby they will be subtly matched with other players, creating the illusion of a giant, MMO-esque world, allowing players to then tackle missions together, as becomes vital during the all-important raids and boss battles. As if that doesn't sound cool enough, Peter Dinklage voices the Ghost, a flying AI that follows the protagonist around wherever they go. Though there's every chance it could simply be another Star Wars: The Old Republic, and the terrifyingly high budget means that great sales figures won't be anywhere near enough, what we've seen so far suggests that Destiny just could end up as the Game of the Year winner. Predicted Metacritic Score: 89
