20 Infuriating Video Game Bosses Nobody Beat First Time

11. Vergil (Devil May Cry 3)

When Devil May Cry 3 released it was considered the make or break entry for the franchise. After an outstanding original game and one of the most disappointing follow ups ever made, DMC 3 set out with a mission to prove that the series could be every bit as challenging, tactical and imaginative as the first game had promised. As a result, this third entry into the franchise provided one of the most difficult challenges the series has ever seen. The title€™s final boss, the older evil brother to playable character Dante, proves to be such a task because in a one-on-one test of strength, the demonic swordmaster will beat you every single time. In duelling against Vergil it always became a case of learning to avoid his flurry of attacks and trying to keep away from the boss while always looking for a way to stun him so you could hopefully start chipping away at his health. However more than just a challenging final encounter, the difficulty and skill required in defeating Vergil set a precedent that the franchise has never quite been able to match since.
