Treasure's debut game was such an immense statement of intent that they have never managed to make a better one since. Gunstar Heroes is everything that is good about gaming all crammed into an action-packed masterpiece.

Everything about Gunstar Heroes is perfect, from the way the characters control through to the weapon combination system. It's fast, furious and challenging without ever being unfair. Plus it has some of the most inspired and technically demanding level design on the Megadrive.

The game's reputation only continues to grow with each passing year and it is a true travesty that the title never received the sales to go along with the overwhelmingly positive critical reception that it got upon release.

There isn't so much as a dull second in Gunstar Heroes and the game makes full use of every tool that the Megadrive had at its disposal to offer a game that still stands at the pinnacle of the run 'n' gun genre so many years later.
