20 Moments That Made The Resident Evil Series Iconic
18. "Itchy, Tasty" - Resident Evil
The original Resident Evil played out as a mystery, where the player would have to piece together what happened by unlocking new areas and reading the scattered documents littering the Spencer Mansion. Reading through some of this stuff can be a little tedious, but The Keeper’s Diary is a special exception.
The diary is written from the perspective of an Umbrella researcher before and after his exposure to the t-virus, and his mind gradually dissolves into slush with each passing entry. It’s a disturbing read that ends with the researcher eating one of his co-workers, before signing off with the now legendary entry “Itchy. Tasty.”
If the player wasn’t unsettled enough by that, they instantly have to deal with the dead researcher breaking out of the closet behind them and attacking; a perfect example of combining atmosphere and jump scares together.
