20 More Things Only Dark Souls Fans Will Understand

7. Feeling Terrible After Fighting Sif

It's usual to feel a sense of immense pride and triumph when finally felling one of the fearsome beasties of Dark Souls.

Then, along came Sif.

The Great Grey Wolf is just as its title says, a huge wolf that guards the grave of Artorias inside the Darkroot Garden. This loyal friend guards the grave of its former master, even picking up its master's greatsword to do battle with the chosen undead.

The fight is truly a heartbreaking one with an emotional soundtrack to fit. It starts off quite like any other fight in Dark Souls with the player simply trickling down Sif's health and then...the wolf starts limping.

It's truly heart-wrenching stuff, and you know that in your heart you still have to put down this poor creature to progress. Once it's dead, you just feel like a truly terrible person.

If you've played the Artorias of the Abyss DLC, you'll find that Sif's story is even more tragic. Artorias and Sif were together attacked by Humanity Phantoms, and Artorias sacrificed himself and placed his shield to create a barrier to protect a younger Sif.

In the future, the grown-up Sif guards Artorias' grave, to stop the same fate befalling anyone else.
