8. The Unexpected Win When An Enemy Falls To Their Death

Dark Souls enemies are so focused on their goal of killing you, they often don't pay full attention to their surroundings.

Cliffs are a very serious enemy in the Souls games, and - thankfully - the deadly nature of these precipices applies to enemies too. There's nothing quite like the sense of elation you feel when an enemy either takes the wrong step or gets launched straight off the cliff as a result of one of your attacks.

You may even think at first that the enemy has somehow survived their plunge. Then a few seconds pass, and you'll see your souls total creep up a little because of the enemies' mountainous demise.

The very best situation for this to happen is when you're really low on health and know you're not going to win. In a last-ditch attempt to survive, you run away full pelt with the enemy hot on your heels.

Then the enemy - whose AI doesn't deal so well with changes in scenery - doesn't realise they're about to throw themselves to their death and plunges straight off that cliff into oblivion.

Of course then his mate doesn't do that, and instantly kills you afterwards, but it's nice to have that brief moment of respite.
