20 More Things Only Dark Souls Fans Will Understand

5. Wondering What On Earth The Pendant Does

With Dark Souls being so incredibly cryptic pretty much constantly, it seemed hard to accept that an item in the game did absolutely nothing whatsoever.

In the original Dark Souls, there's an item called Pendant. It's a starting gift item, and when you select it, it'll state:

"A simple pendant with no effect. Even so, pleasant memories are crucial to survival on arduous journeys."

Hidetaki Miyazaki, director of Dark Souls, advised players to select either this pendant or nothing as a starting gift, beginning massive levels of speculation as to its true purpose.

Despite the best efforts of Dark Souls players worldwide, the only known usage of the Pendant seems to be to trade it with Snuggly the Crow for a Souvenir of Reprisal.

Turns out all these efforts were a complete waste of time. Despite the fact that this is Dark Souls, the Pendant actually is intended to do absolutely nothing.

In an interview with IGN, Miyazaki finally confirmed this was the case:

"When it comes to the pendant, I actually had a little bit of an intention to play a prank.” he said.

Godamn it. There's six hours I'll never get back.
