14. The Reaper - Persona 5
In Persona 5, Joker and his group of Phantom Thieves venture into subconscious realms to stop evil psyches from corrupting the world. The group can explore a vast area called Mementos, which represents society's collective subconscious.
Though there's plenty to do in Mementos, Joker's gang shouldn't hang around in one area for too long or they'll catch the attention of The Reaper. This superboss performs chain attacks, giving the Phantom Thieves no opportunity to retaliate, heal, or defend themselves. The Reaper constantly boosts its stats while diminishing yours, allowing him to dominate from beginning to end.
Even though The Reaper seems unstoppable, it's a different story if the heroes bump into him during Flu Season. During this period, The Reaper will be struck with Despair, causing his SP (Skill Points) to rapidly drain. His SP should hit zero entirely within a few turns, causing the seemingly indestructible enemy to perish.
Initially, The Reaper seems like a boss that players should avoid at all costs. But after learning about this trick, players will be eager to meet him, since they'll be rewarded with a ton of EXP and all sorts of goodies by doing basically nothing.
