12. Kirby and The Forgotten Land

When Nintendo first announced Kirby and The Forgotten Land, many internet commentors were quick to point out the similarities between the game's post-apocalyptic cityscape and the ruined world portrayed in Naughty Dog's The Last of Us.
Which is, of course, absurd. Kirby's adventures are far more sinister than anything Naughty Dog could dream of.
No-one who played Kirby and the Crystal Shards is ever likely to forget Zero - a cycloptic angel who bleeds from the eye when you hit it, and whose boss arena definitely took notes from Earthbound's mind-screwing final boss fight. And, as the article linked to above states, the latest Kirby game culminated in a cult-leader commiting mass-murder-suicide to summon his eldritch God.
Kirby games have always contained a bitter darkness that's hidden under a sugar-sweet coating, and The Forgotten Land is sure to be one of the greatest horror games of 2022.
(Much like Kirby's lore itself, it's up to you to decide how seriously to take that statement).
