6. Metroid II: Samus Returns

Metroid samus returns
Nintendo

Release Date: 15th September

Doing for Super Metroid what Link Between Worlds did for Link to the Past in a modernised gameplay-sense, Metroid 2: Samus Returns is upending the side-on control scheme we've become accustomed to over the years.

The biggest change is full on 360-degree aiming, meaning you're no longer locked to eight-way directions. There's also a melee counter for all those enemies who get too close, added executions on downed foes (which were the best thing about Metroid: Other M) and of course, a completely overhauled graphics engine.

Being we've not had a dedicated side-scrolling Metroid since 2004's Zero Mission, this will be welcomed with open arms and hugged tight for months to come.
