Looking back at all these important moments in video game history makes us wonder: what next? Well, according to everybody who knows about these things, virtual reality. It's a fad that has waxed and waned in video games on a number of occasions but, like 3D films, it looks like this time the technology's finally to the point where it surpasses gimmickry and becomes a whole new way to consume our big budget entertainment. Test videos of the Oculus Rift - recently bought up by Facebook - show people being immersed in games and fictional worlds like never before. We're right at the cusp of a totally new way of gaming, and we cannot wait to see where it goes.
1. The Current Gen Changes Everything
That's a look to the future, but what does the present of video games have in store for us? Well, quite a lot, actually, especially when you consider where we started. Now, video games rule our living rooms, with the Playstation 4, Xbox One and Wii U not only attempting to corner the market in consoles but also in your internet browsing, how you watch TV, communicate with people, and keep fit. Sony and Microsoft have moved into producing original films and shows for their respective platforms, Nintendo have taken control of your exercise with Wii Fit, and you don't even need to leave the sofa to bring someone up on a Skype call thanks to in-built cameras and microphones. We probably could've dictated this entire list to our Xbox, in fact, if it weren't for the privacy concerns...
