Another choose your own adventure game which enjoyed success this decade, Life Is Strange really dug deep into the narrative aspect these games can offer.

There were some red herrings and ultimately consequenceless choices, but overall it was an absorbing story with some twists thrown in there too.

Talking Kate down off the roof (or failing and watching her fall) or the revelation that Jefferson was a creepy abuser all along were shocking, but it’s the final choice the game poses which is Life Is Strange’s most intense moment. Coming off the back of a surreal and unnerving dream sequence, you reach the point of the game you first flashed forward to. The storm is coming. Do you save the bay, or save Chloe, your bae?

The bay or bae reference wasn’t as dated as it sounds now, and memes aside it marks a difficult choice. If you choose to romance Warren over Chloe (or just stay single) it’s less impactful, and either way you get some similar story beats, just without Chloe if you sacrifice her.

Still, it’s a gut punch of a question, even if the delivery and outcome leaves a little to be desired.
