20 Most Terrifying Video Game Enemies Of The Decade
8. The Beast - Amnesia: The Bunker (2023)
With the likes of Amnesia: The Dark Descent and Soma, developers Frictional Games have cemented themselves as the gold standard for psychological horror. Their latest offering, Amnesia: The Bunker, is equally affecting.
Set during World War 1, this title sees players take on the role of French soldier Henri Clément. After waking up in the titular bunker to find the exit blocked and Henri's comrades brutally killed, players must navigate the maze-like corridors in search of a way out. Stalking them every step of the way, however, is The Beast.
A bloodthirsty monster that's incredibly sensitive to sound and light, players must be extremely careful while exploring to avoid drawing its attention. However, when Henri's main light source is a noisy hand-wound flashlight, staying quiet isn't easy. Survival likewise only becomes harder whenever the main generator runs out of fuel, which causes the lights to go out. Not only are players required to use their loud flashlight, but the monster is now free to roam the bunker.
With its randomised behaviour making it impossible for players to predict how the creature will react, every ominous scratching sound or distant rumble overhead will have players looking over their shoulder uneasily.
