20 Most Terrifying Video Game Enemies Of The Decade

5. The Old Lady - Dread Flats (2025)

One of the most terrifying releases of last year, Chinese-developed indie title Dread Flats puts players in the shoes of the host of a paranormal channel hired to film at an abandoned apartment building where the residents mysteriously disappeared. Not long after entering the decrepit complex, however, it becomes clear that something is deeply wrong with this place.

Developers Ghostcase instil an intense and oppressive atmosphere from the outset, which only tightens its grip throughout the game's taut 90-minute runtime. As players explore the dark corridors and eerily empty apartments, they soon discover that they're not alone.

An old woman is occasionally seen roaming the hallways or in some of the rooms. Although the game never explains who or what she is, environmental details like wardrobes tied shut and photographs featuring her ominously smiling in the background offer just enough information for players to fill in the gaps for themselves.

Although she only makes a handful of appearances, the developers ensure that each scare is as unexpected and chilling as the last. However, nothing can prepare players for the haunting image of that woman's face grinning from under a bed in this short but highly effective horror outing.
