20 Most Terrifying Video Game Enemies Of The Decade
6. Anima - The Evil Within 2 (2017)
Shinji Mikami's grimy survival horror The Evil Within contained some of the most frightening enemies of the last generation, with the spidery Laura being as a notable highlight. The sequel continued to deliver on its ghoulish creativity, giving players even more strange and haunting creatures to fear.
The scariest of them all is Anima. Taking inspiration from J-horror, this enemy is a ghostly woman in tattered clothes whose long, black hair obscures her face. She haunts protagonist Sebastian Castellanos at certain points in the game, with a sudden temperature drop accompanied by fog covering the ground signalling her arrival.
When she appears, players are transported to a dilapidated hospital where they must carefully sneak past her. Although she moves incredibly slowly while humming a lullaby to herself, she's capable of closing the distance at an alarming speed when she detects Sebastian, killing him instantly.
Although the main encounters with this spooky spectre are scripted, it's also possible for players to encounter her randomly while exploring the world, where they'll once again need to escape from her clutches.
Since Anima can appear at any given moment, players never truly feel safe from this chilling enemy.
