20 Most Terrifying Video Game Enemies Of The Decade
14. Reaper Leviathan - Subnautica (2018)
When players crash-land on an alien planet at the start of Subnautica, they find themselves stranded on a vast ocean world. To survive, they must explore their surroundings and gather resources to craft equipment that enables them to dive deeper into the unknown depths.
As players make their way through each of the distinctive biomes, they'll be treated to some spectacular visuals and make contact with some of the planet's adorable denizens. However, this world is also a terrifying place inhabited by monstrous leviathans.
While some of the most dangerous beasts dwell within the deepest areas, the one that leaves the biggest impression is the Reaper Leviathan.
Found patrolling the shallows surrounding the wreckage of the crashed spaceship, these are the first major enemies players face. They're far bigger than anything encountered to this point and are powerful enough to destroy vehicles. The scariest thing about Reapers is their ferocious roar. In addition to sounding terrifying, the creature's data entry reveals that it serves a form of echolocation, meaning that if players can hear a Reaper, it can see them.
Meeting a Reaper Leviathan is the exact moment players realise Subnautica is far from the cosy underwater adventure they imagined.
