20 Most Under-Appreciated Video Games Of The Decade (So Far)
12. Max Payne 3
A somewhat rare case where one first look at an upcoming game ended up tanking the entire project, all it took was one look at a bald, Hawaiian shirt-wearing Max Payne to put off the masses, despite the first two games being played by an entire generation of gamers.
This was mostly down to Rockstar stepping in for full developer duties as Remedy went to work on Quantum Break, seeing Max devolve into a haze of alcohol and painkillers to get through the day.
What was left out of the marketing was a variety of flashbacks where Max was in his trademark trenchcoat n' leopard print tie, showing just how far the character had fallen with his family and lover out the equation - only for the story to build him back up again for the big finish.
Gameplay-wise this has the best shooting Rockstar have ever devised; an anarchic blend of destructible environments, gut-busting firearm kicks and slow-motion dives, all coming together to form a Max Payne that yes, was different, but is just as much worth playing as the first two.
