20 Reasons The Year's Biggest Video Games Might Suck

8. Rise Of The Tomb Raider Reverts To The Series' Earlier Cliches

Release Date: November or December The Hype: Ignore all the controversy about Rise of the Tomb Raider being a timed Xbox One exclusive, and it sure sounds like a hell of a game. Further exploring Lara Croft's journey to mastering her titular vocation, Rise will feature more actual tomb raiding this time, not to mention a crafting system, swimming and advanced combat set against the unforgiving backdrop of Siberia. Why It Might Suck: Rise of the Tomb Raider is a game that's sure to be pulled in two directions: it will want to continue along the successful path which made the previous game such a success, but it will also be encouraged to include elements from the original series as well. This could result in a somewhat schizophrenic final product which doesn't really know what it is. The key thing, of course, is to keep Lara vulnerable and ensure that the player is protective of her, rather than revert to her status as a somewhat dubious sex symbol. Also, hopefully it will retain the Uncharted-esque grit of the previous game rather than lean back on the rather convoluted gameplay of the tomb raiding in the earlier titles.
